3 Reasons Why a Faith-Based Approach to Weight Loss is Critical to your Success

I see it all the time in the secular weight loss world—coaches who teach people to use positive affirmations to find their power to lose weight from within.

For example, coaches commonly use this positive affirmation technique to empower their clients: Look at yourself in the mirror and say out loud, “I am beautiful.

You absolutely are beautiful, I don’t disagree. But, you’re not beautiful because of your inner strength or your power to conquer the scale. You’re beautiful because you’re created in God’s image and He calls you beautiful.

So often in the fitness world, we are called to find the power within ourselves to lose weight and get fit. But ladies, we have something so much more powerful than our own determination. We have the Holy Spirit, who helps us and guides us, yes, even on our weight loss journeys.

A Faith-Based Approach to Weight Loss: Where Your True Power Comes From

That’s why it’s so important to have a faith-based approach to weight loss. True power to face our temptations and sins comes from the Spirit and He delights to work in us. Even more, your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who dwells in you, and God calls you to use your body to honor Him.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says, “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”

God is completely concerned with how we steward our bodies because when we steward them well, we have more energy to live the life God has called us to. Your weight loss journey is a matter of stewardship, not selfishness. When you care for yourself and your body, you’re better able to care for others, not less!
